A Day at Bodmin Jail.

Today myself, Reneece, Reiss and Kezia E from team J20 and Kezia B,Anderson and Rahul from team Smirnoff went to Bodmin's famous jail. Some of us were very apprehensive about visiting the jail, but were still very interested in finding out the history of it.

Bodmin Jail was built in 1779 on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. The Jail was designed by Sir John Call and built by the prisoners of war.

On 20th July 1909, Bodmin jail saw the last execution in Bodmin and in Cornwall. Unfortunately that was William Hampton, who was born on 23rd May 1885 in the district of Penwith Cornwall. He was executed for the murder of his late girlfriend Emily Barnes Trevarthen Tredrea.

The jail was operational for 150 years and witnessed over 50 hangings until it finally closed in 1927. Since then there has been no other jail in the county of Cornwall.

Much of the jail remains in ruins, but parts have been refurbished and now forms a tourist attraction with exhibitions.
